Overview
Chazhu Xiaozhi decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation under clinical investigation for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It is administered as a daily oral decoction and evaluated for its ability to improve hepatic steatosis and overall liver health in adults with NAFLD, particularly those diagnosed with Spleen Deficiency and Damp-Heat Syndrome according to TCM criteria. The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but, like other TCM formulas used for similar indications, it likely acts through multi-target modulation of inflammation, lipid metabolism, and possibly gut-liver axis pathways. Chazhu Xiaozhi decoction is compared against placebo in randomized controlled trials to assess efficacy and safety[1].
