CRT + panitumumab is a combination treatment regimen investigated for the treatment of irresectable esophageal cancer, including both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. This regimen integrates panitumumab (Vectibix), a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), with standard concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT). The chemotherapy component typically involves either a combination of cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil or weekly carboplatin and paclitaxel, administered alongside external beam radiation therapy. By inhibiting EGFR-mediated signaling pathways that promote tumor growth and survival, panitumumab is intended to sensitize cancer cells to the cytotoxic effects of radiation and chemotherapy, potentially improving survival outcomes in patients with locally advanced, inoperable disease.
