Overview

ChemoSeed is a bioresorbable implantable drug delivery platform developed by CRISM Therapeutics for the localized treatment of solid tumors, specifically high-grade gliomas (HGG) and glioblastoma. The device consists of biodegradable seeds made from polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) polymer, measuring 6mm in length and 2mm in diameter, which are implanted directly into the tumor or surgical resection margins via a 12-gauge biopsy needle or catheter. ChemoSeed is designed to provide sustained release of chemotherapy agents—most notably irinotecan for brain tumors and docetaxel for prostate cancer—over a period of 7 to 35 days. This localized approach allows for high therapeutic concentrations at the site of the disease while bypassing the blood-brain barrier and significantly reducing systemic side effects. The lead program for HGG is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
