Chenopodium botrys pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Jerusalem oak goosefoot plant (also known as Dysphania botrys). It is utilized in clinical practice for both the diagnosis and treatment of Type I hypersensitivity reactions, such as allergic rhinitis and asthma, in individuals sensitized to this specific weed pollen. As a diagnostic tool, it is used in skin prick or intradermal testing to identify specific IgE-mediated sensitivity. As a therapeutic agent, it is employed in allergen immunotherapy (desensitization), where repeated exposure to increasing doses of the allergen induces immunological tolerance. This process typically involves a shift from a Th2-dominated allergic response to a Th1/Treg-mediated response, characterized by the production of blocking antibodies (IgG4) and a reduction in allergen-specific IgE levels.
