Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chenpi decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation made by boiling the dried peel of *Citrus reticulata* (Mandarin orange) in water. This extraction process releases a variety of bioactive compounds, most notably flavonoids such as hesperidin, nobiletin, and tangeretin. Historically, it has been utilized to treat gastrointestinal disorders like dyspepsia and respiratory conditions involving inflammation and excessive phlegm. Modern pharmacological research indicates that the decoction possesses significant antioxidant activity and may assist in reducing specific adipose tissue deposits, such as perirenal fat. While it shares some metabolic benefits with other forms of chenpi, studies suggest the decoction form has a more pronounced antioxidant profile but a lesser impact on gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acid production compared to the powder form.
