Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CheonWangBoSim-dan (also known as Tian Wang Bu Xin Dan or CWBSD) is a traditional East Asian herbal formula composed of 15 medicinal herbs, including *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Coptis japonica*, *Acorus gramineus*, *Panax ginseng*, *Angelica gigas*, *Schisandra chinensis*, *Asparagus cochinchinensis*, *Liriope platyphylla*, *Thuja orientalis*, *Ziziphus jujuba*, *Scrophularia buergeriana*, *Poria cocos*, *Salvia miltiorrhiza*, *Platycodon grandiflorus*, and *Polygala tenuifolia*. It is widely used in South Korea and other East Asian countries as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine to treat insomnia, anxiety, restlessness, palpitations, forgetfulness, and neurasthenia. In addition to its traditional uses, CheonWangBoSim-dan is being investigated for its potential therapeutic benefits in mild cognitive impairment (MCI), chronic pruritus, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its mechanisms of action include the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) to improve cholinergic neurotransmission, the inhibition of IgE-FcεRI binding to suppress mast cell degranulation and histamine release, and the modulation of sensory neuronal activation.
