Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cheqianzi is the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) name for Plantago (plantain) seed, derived from *Plantago asiatica* or *Plantago depressa*. It is a multi-component botanical medicine traditionally used to clear damp-heat, stimulate urination, and treat conditions such as edema, painful or burning urination, diarrhea, red or sore eyes, and cough with phlegm. Modern research suggests that cheqianzi has potential therapeutic effects on hyperuricemia (high uric acid levels), inflammation, and renal injury. Its active ingredient, acteoside, is reported to lower serum uric acid by inhibiting uric acid production and preventing its reabsorption. It is also a key component of the traditional Song-dynasty formula Cheqianzi Decoction.
