Overview

CHF 4227 is an orally active, selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) with high affinity for both human estrogen receptor alpha and beta. It has demonstrated promising efficacy in preclinical models for the prevention of bone loss and lowering serum cholesterol concentrations, without inducing stimulatory effects on uterine tissue or worsening menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes. In phase I clinical studies in healthy postmenopausal women, it was well tolerated and showed beneficial effects on bone markers and serum lipids. The drug was initially developed by Chiesi Farmaceutici.
