Overview

CHF 5633 is a synthetic pulmonary surfactant developed for the treatment of **neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)**, particularly in preterm infants. It contains synthetic analogues of **surfactant protein B (SP-B)** and **surfactant protein C (SP-C)**, as well as the phospholipids **dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC)** and **1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoglycerol sodium salt (POPG Na)**. The drug is intended to mimic the function of natural surfactant in reducing alveolar surface tension, thereby improving lung function, oxygenation, and reducing ventilatory requirements. Mechanistically, it enhances cell membrane permeability and stabilizes alveoli during breathing, preventing collapse and attenuating lung inflammation[1][7][8][9].
