Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chia oil is a natural plant-derived oil extracted from the seeds of *Salvia hispanica* (chia). It is exceptionally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), as well as omega-6 fatty acids (linoleic acid), oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. Chia oil contains potent antioxidants such as vitamin E and various polyphenols. Its primary mechanisms of action are attributed to its high ALA content, which supports anti-inflammatory effects by modulating the omega-6/omega-3 ratio in cell membranes and reducing pro-inflammatory mediators. Chia oil has been shown to improve skin barrier function when applied topically—enhancing hydration, reducing inflammation, supporting collagen production—and may help lower blood pressure and improve lipid profiles when consumed orally. It is widely used both as an edible dietary supplement for cardiovascular health and as a cosmetic ingredient for skin moisturization and anti-aging benefits[1][2][4][5][8].
