Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chicory extract is a botanical product derived from the roots or leaves of *Cichorium intybus*. It is characterized by a high content of inulin, a prebiotic soluble fiber, as well as bioactive compounds such as phenolic acids (e.g., chlorogenic acid) and sesquiterpene lactones (e.g., lactucin). Chicory extract is widely utilized as a dietary supplement to support digestive health by promoting the growth of beneficial gut microbiota. Beyond its prebiotic properties, research has explored its potential therapeutic applications in managing hyperuricemia and gout due to its ability to inhibit xanthine oxidase, as well as its anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects. It is also commonly used as a caffeine-free coffee substitute and a functional food ingredient.
