Overview

The chimeric anti-CEA antibody conjugated with Alexa 660 is an experimental fluorescent imaging agent designed for fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). It consists of a chimeric mouse-human monoclonal antibody that specifically binds to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a cell surface glycoprotein frequently overexpressed in solid tumors such as pancreatic and colorectal cancers. The antibody is conjugated to Alexa Fluor 660, a far-red/near-infrared fluorophore with an excitation maximum around 650 nm, which provides deep tissue penetration and high signal-to-background ratios. Developed through collaborations involving Aragen Biosciences and the University of California San Diego, the conjugate has demonstrated the ability to delineate tumor margins and detect small metastatic deposits in preclinical orthotopic mouse models, facilitating more precise surgical outcomes.
