The chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is a viral vector vaccine platform that utilizes a non-replicating chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAd) to deliver the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. This approach is designed to circumvent pre-existing immunity to human adenoviruses (such as Ad5), which can limit vaccine efficacy. A specific candidate using this platform, often referred to as AdC68-nCoV or AdC68-S, was developed by the Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen in collaboration with Tsinghua University. It has been investigated in clinical trials (e.g., ChiCTR2100053473) as a heterologous booster dose to enhance immune responses in individuals who previously received inactivated COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccine aims to induce robust neutralizing antibody titers and T-cell responses against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
