Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chinese herbal formula No.2 is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation developed by the Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials as an adjunctive treatment for patients with active rheumatoid arthritis who are undergoing glucocorticoid tapering. The formula is used in combination with standard disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), such as methotrexate and leflunomide, and the corticosteroid prednisone. The primary objective of incorporating this herbal formula is to reduce the cumulative dose of glucocorticoids required to maintain disease control, minimize the risk of relapse during steroid withdrawal, and improve overall safety and disease activity scores (e.g., DAS28-ESR). As a TCM intervention, it is likely composed of a standardized mixture of botanical extracts tailored to specific arthritic patterns recognized in traditional medicine.
