Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chinese medicine WT is an investigational traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Changhua Christian Hospital for the treatment of spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3). Administered as an oral concentrated powder, the formulation contains bioactive constituents that exhibit neuroprotective properties against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity, a primary driver of neurodegeneration in SCA3. Its mechanism of action involves the up-regulation of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) protein expression and the promotion of neurogenesis. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 2 clinical evaluation (NCT05038306) to determine its safety and efficacy in slowing disease progression and improving motor function in patients with SCA3.
