Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chitin-glucan + olive extract is a combination nutraceutical and dietary supplement designed to reduce cardiovascular risk by targeting oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL) and total LDL cholesterol levels. The combination consists of **chitin-glucan (CG)**, an insoluble dietary fiber derived from the mycelium of *Aspergillus niger* (marketed under the brand name **Artinia**), and a polyphenolic **olive oil extract**. Chitin-glucan acts as a functional fiber that may sequester cholesterol and bile acids in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing systemic cholesterol levels. The olive extract component provides potent antioxidant polyphenols, such as hydroxytyrosol, which inhibit the oxidative modification of LDL particles. This dual mechanism aims to lower both the quantity and the atherogenicity of circulating LDL cholesterol in individuals with borderline to high cholesterol levels.
