Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ChitoCare is a CE-marked topical medical device line containing chitosan, a bioactive polymer derived from chitin, formulated as either a gel or spray for wound and scar care. ChitoCare products form a thin, breathable, protective film over the skin or wounds, supporting healing by maintaining moisture, providing a barrier to contamination, and promoting the natural repair process through biocompatible bioadhesive action. Chitosan, the active ingredient, exerts its effect primarily via physical and biological interactions: promoting wound healing, reducing inflammation and itching, maintaining a moist environment, reducing pain by blocking nerve endings, and providing some antimicrobial barrier effect. ChitoCare has been clinically tested in chronic diabetic foot ulcers, showing improved wound healing rates compared to placebo. The main products are designed for minor wounds and burns, chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, skin irritations, scarring, and conditions such as eczema, bug bites, and acne symptoms[2][3][4][5][6].
