Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**ChitoRhino** is an over-the-counter intranasal irrigation product developed by Ideoto for nasal and sinus care. The rinse formulation contains chitosan, a naturally derived polysaccharide, together with xylitol, buffered saline, and sodium bicarbonate. It is intended to cleanse nasal and sinus passages and has been evaluated in a University of Virginia crossover study in adults with rhinosinusitis for its ability to reduce bacterial and fungal contamination of nasal-irrigation bottles relative to saline. Chitosan is proposed to provide local antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and anti-adhesive effects, including reducing adherence of irritants and microorganisms to nasal tissues.
