Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chitosan + propolis + PRP is an investigational composite biomaterial developed for topical application to promote wound healing. This combination product leverages the distinct properties of its three components. Chitosan, a natural polysaccharide, provides a structural scaffold for tissue regrowth and exhibits hemostatic and antimicrobial properties. [14, 16] Propolis, a resinous substance produced by bees, contributes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects. [15, 23] Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), an autologous concentrate of platelets from the patient's own blood, delivers a high concentration of various growth factors (such as PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF) directly to the wound site, which stimulates cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen synthesis to accelerate tissue regeneration. [14, 24, 26] This multi-modal approach is being clinically evaluated for the treatment of non-acute infectious wounds.
