Chitosan-coated silver nanoparticles (Ch-AgNPs) is an experimental nanotechnology-based antimicrobial agent being developed by Ain Shams University for use in pediatric dentistry. It is specifically investigated for the management of non-vital (necrotic) primary molars using the Lesion Sterilization and Tissue Repair (LSTR) technique. The formulation consists of silver nanoparticles stabilized and functionalized with a chitosan coating, which enhances the antimicrobial efficacy and biocompatibility of the silver core. In clinical applications, the medicament is applied directly to the pulp chamber floor to eradicate polymicrobial biofilms and promote tissue repair, either as a standalone agent or as a delivery vehicle for antibiotic pastes containing metronidazole and ciprofloxacin.
