Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chitosan-Hyaluronate Gel Mixture is an experimental hybrid hydrogel formulation developed for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement. It combines chitosan, a natural polysaccharide known for its mucoadhesive, biocompatible, and anti-inflammatory properties, with hyaluronic acid (HA), a glycosaminoglycan that provides lubrication and shock absorption within the synovial joint. The mixture is designed for intra-articular injection following arthroscopic lysis and lavage. By combining these two substances, the gel aims to provide superior viscosupplementation and structural support compared to hyaluronic acid alone, specifically targeting patients with Wilkes Stage III or IV anterior disc displacement without reduction to improve mouth opening and reduce joint pain.
