Overview

This is a multi-component ophthalmic combination drug containing six active ingredients: - **Chloramphenicol** is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, used for treating ocular infections caused by susceptible bacteria[6][4]. - **Dexamethasone** is a potent synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, acting primarily through inhibition of phospholipase A2 and suppression of neutrophil migration, reducing inflammation in ocular tissues[4][5]. - **Tetryzoline** (also known as tetrahydrozoline) is an imidazoline-derived sympathomimetic amine with α-adrenergic agonist activity. It acts as a vasoconstrictor to reduce conjunctival congestion and redness[1][4]. - **Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose** serves as an ocular lubricant (artificial tear), providing moisture and comfort to the eye surface. - **Alpha-tocopherol acetate** (vitamin E acetate) functions as an antioxidant, protecting ocular tissues from oxidative stress. - **Macrogol 400** (polyethylene glycol 400) acts as another lubricant or demulcent in ophthalmic preparations. This combination targets both infection and inflammation while providing symptomatic relief from irritation and dryness. It may be indicated for acute or chronic conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, anterior uveitis, scleritis, or other inflammatory/infectious conditions of the eye where combined antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory/lubricant therapy is warranted.
