Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chlorhexidine + CITROX is an investigational combination antimicrobial mouthrinse formulation designed for the management of oral microbial biofilms and the treatment of gingivitis and mild periodontitis. It combines **chlorhexidine digluconate**, a well-established broad-spectrum antiseptic that disrupts bacterial cell membranes, with **CITROX**, a proprietary natural antimicrobial ingredient composed of nine bioflavonoids derived from bitter orange (*Citrus aurantium*) extracts. The combination is intended to enhance the antiplaque and antigingivitis efficacy of chlorhexidine while potentially mitigating common side effects such as tooth staining and taste alteration. Clinical evaluations, including randomized trials conducted by the Polytechnic University of Marche, have assessed the non-inferiority of this formulation compared to standard chlorhexidine rinses in reducing plaque and improving gingival health outcomes.
