Overview
The combination of chlorhexidine and Periosciences antioxidant oral care products (such as AO ProVantage gel) is utilized as an adjunctive regimen in the treatment of periodontal diseases, including Stage II Grade B periodontitis, and for post-surgical oral care. Chlorhexidine is a cationic bisbiguanide antiseptic that provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes. Periosciences products utilize topically applied antioxidants, such as phloretin and ferulic acid, to neutralize free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and downregulate inflammatory cytokines in oral tissues. Together, this regimen aims to control bacterial infection, minimize gingival inflammation, and accelerate soft tissue wound healing following scaling and root planing or periodontal surgery.
