Chlorhexidine + protamine sulfate is an experimental antimicrobial combination primarily investigated as a coating for medical devices, such as central venous catheters, to prevent healthcare-associated infections. Chlorhexidine is a well-established, broad-spectrum biguanide antiseptic that disrupts microbial cell membranes. Protamine sulfate, a polycationic protein traditionally used to neutralize heparin, acts as a bacterial cell wall permeabilizer in this context. When combined, the two agents exhibit synergistic activity against a wide range of pathogens, including *Escherichia coli*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, and *Candida albicans*. The combination is designed to provide both immediate and sustained antimicrobial protection on the surface of devices to inhibit biofilm formation and reduce the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections.
