Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prevora Stage 1 is a high-concentration topical dental solution containing 10% w/v chlorhexidine acetate, developed by CHX Technologies. It is the primary component of the two-stage Prevora system designed for the reduction of dental caries (tooth decay) and root caries in adults at high risk. The drug delivers chlorhexidine in a polymeric matrix of Sumatra benzoin, which is professionally applied to the teeth in a dental office setting. This application is typically followed by an inert sealant (Stage 2) to increase the retention time of the antimicrobial agent on the tooth surface. Prevora works by reducing harmful cariogenic bacteria within dental plaque biofilms at bactericidal concentrations. It is approved for use in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the European Union.
