Overview

Chlorin e6 derivative STBF is a second-generation photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). It is a derivative of chlorin e6 (Ce6), a porphyrin-like molecule derived from chlorophyll. STBF is specifically being evaluated for dermatological applications, most notably for the treatment of rosacea. In the STBF-PDT procedure, the drug is applied topically to the affected skin and subsequently activated by a specific wavelength of light (typically red light around 630 nm). This activation leads to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as singlet oxygen, which induce anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, target sebaceous gland activity, and may reduce *Demodex* mite populations. Clinical studies, including those conducted by the Shanghai Skin Disease Hospital, have compared the efficacy and safety of STBF-PDT against standard systemic treatments like doxycycline for rosacea management.
