Overview

A theranostic agent consisting of a conjugate between the photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) and a heptamethine cyanine dye (such as MHI-148 or IR-783). This conjugate is designed to improve the tumor specificity of Ce6 by utilizing the affinity of heptamethine cyanine dyes for cancer cells, which is mediated by the overexpression of organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs) and hypoxia-induced factors. The agent functions as a multifunctional tool for near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging, PET imaging (when radiolabeled with 64Cu), and photodynamic therapy (PDT), where it generates cytotoxic reactive oxygen species upon light activation to induce tumor cell death.
