chlormezanone

Chlormezanone is a non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic and centrally acting muscle relaxant. It was primarily used for the management of anxiety and the treatment of muscle spasms and musculoskeletal disorders. Chlormezanone acts as a positive allosteric modulator at the benzodiazepine site of GABA A receptors, potentiating the effects of GABA, which increases inhibition in the central nervous system and leads to its anxiolytic and muscle relaxant properties. The drug was first approved in 1960 but has been discontinued in many countries since 1996 due to rare but serious adverse reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis[1][2][4][8].
