Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chlorobutanol + hexetidine is a combination drug used primarily for treating sore throat and oral mucositis. Hexetidine provides pronounced antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, effective against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It has a moderate bacteriostatic effect on aerobic strains and a strong bactericidal effect on anaerobic strains. Its mechanism is based on competition with thiamine, which is necessary for microorganism growth. Chlorobutanol contributes analgesic (local anesthetic) properties to the combination, helping to reduce pain and discomfort associated with sore throat.
