Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chlorophytum borivilianum total saponin is the purified saponin fraction derived from the tuberous roots of Chlorophytum borivilianum, a medicinal plant commonly known as Safed musli. This fraction consists primarily of steroidal and triterpene saponins. The compound is investigated for its *antioxidant*, *cytotoxic*, *anti-inflammatory*, and possible *anti-arthritic* properties. Mechanistically, it demonstrates antioxidant mechanisms including free radical scavenging and iron chelation. It also shows moderate and selective cytotoxicity against human MCF-7 (breast cancer) cells and is being studied for broader anticancer potential. The total saponin fraction does not comprise a single molecule but a mixture of structurally related saponins[1][2][4][3][9].
