Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Expectus D is an oral combination cough syrup developed and marketed by Indi Pharma for the treatment of dry cough and associated upper respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and throat irritation. It is formulated as a fixed-dose combination containing chlorpheniramine maleate, a first-generation antihistamine, and dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a centrally acting cough suppressant. Chlorpheniramine maleate acts as an antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor to alleviate allergic symptoms, while dextromethorphan hydrobromide acts as an agonist at the sigma-1 receptor and an antagonist at the NMDA receptor to suppress the cough reflex in the brain.
