Overview

Chlorpheniramine + pseudoephedrine is an oral combination drug consisting of a **first-generation antihistamine** (chlorpheniramine) and a **sympathomimetic decongestant** (pseudoephedrine). - **Chlorpheniramine** antagonizes the **histamine H1 receptor**, blocking the action of endogenous histamine to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose associated with allergies or the common cold. - **Pseudoephedrine** acts as an agonist at adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing nasal congestion. This combination is used for **symptomatic relief** of upper respiratory allergies (such as hay fever) and common cold symptoms, including nasal congestion, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and itchy or watery eyes. It does not treat the underlying cause of symptoms or shorten the duration of illness. It is available in multiple over-the-counter formulations[5][7][8].
