Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DEXBLU-CP is an oral combination syrup formulated for the symptomatic relief of dry cough and common cold symptoms. It contains three active ingredients: chlorpheniramine maleate, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, and phenylephrine. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation antihistamine that acts as an inverse agonist/antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor, reducing allergy-related symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a centrally acting cough suppressant that acts as a sigma-1 receptor agonist and an uncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist, elevating the cough threshold in the brain. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that acts as a decongestant by inducing vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby relieving nasal congestion and stuffiness. Developed by Ind Blues Pharma, DEXBLU-CP is marketed in India for pediatric and general use to manage upper respiratory tract symptoms.
