Overview
Silenser-D is an oral syrup formulation marketed by Octave Life Sciences for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, flu, cough, and upper respiratory allergies. It is a fixed-dose combination containing three active pharmaceutical ingredients: chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), dextromethorphan hydrochloride (a cough suppressant), and phenylephrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant). Chlorpheniramine maleate acts as an antagonist at the histamine H1 receptor to alleviate allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Dextromethorphan hydrochloride acts as an agonist at the sigma-1 receptor and an antagonist at the NMDA receptor to suppress dry cough. Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that induces vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing nasal congestion and swelling.
