Overview

Chlorphenoxamine is a first-generation ethanolamine antihistamine and anticholinergic agent, structurally related to diphenhydramine. It acts primarily as an H1 receptor antagonist (antihistaminic) and also exhibits antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) properties. Chlorphenoxamine has been used as an antipruritic for the treatment of itching, in hypersensitivity reactions, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and was formerly used in the management of parkinsonism due to its central anticholinergic effects. Its mechanism involves blocking histamine H1 receptors to reduce allergic symptoms and exerting antimuscarinic activity that can help with movement disorders[1][2][4][6].
