Overview

Chlorphentermine is a small molecule belonging to the amphetamine family, developed in 1962 as a serotonergic appetite suppressant. It functions primarily as a highly selective serotonin releasing agent (SRA) and was historically used for weight loss in individuals with overweightness or obesity. Despite being a relatively weak stimulant with low abuse potential, it was classified as a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States. The drug is no longer in use due to significant safety concerns, including its association with pulmonary hypertension and cardiac fibrosis, similar to other withdrawn serotonergic appetite suppressants.
