Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The CHM Teabag is a traditional Chinese herbal formulation developed by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for the reduction of stroke risk in elderly individuals. The formulation is composed of five specific herbs: Radix et Rhizoma (Sanqi), Moutan Cortex (Mudanpi), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen), Rosae Rugosae Flos (Meiguihua), and Citri Grandis Exocarpium (Huajuhong). According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, these herbs work synergistically to promote blood circulation, dredge meridians and collaterals, strengthen the spleen, regulate qi, and resolve phlegm. The intervention is currently being evaluated in a stepped wedge cluster randomized trial (NCT05801575) involving participants aged 54 to 84 with phlegm dampness and blood stasis constitutions. The study utilizes machine-learning-based retinal image analysis as a primary tool to evaluate changes in stroke risk and also monitors cognitive impairment and quality of life measures.
