Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chocetam is a topical ophthalmic formulation containing citicoline (cytidine 5'-diphosphocholine), manufactured and marketed by SCLERA Health Care. Citicoline is an endogenous intermediate in the biosynthetic pathway of structural phospholipids in cell membranes, particularly phosphatidylcholine. In the context of ophthalmology, Chocetam is utilized for its neuroprotective properties, aimed at supporting the health and function of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and the optic nerve. It is primarily indicated as an adjuvant therapy for degenerative ocular conditions such as glaucoma, where it may help slow the progression of visual field defects, and in the management of amblyopia to improve visual acuity. By increasing the availability of choline and cytidine, the drug supports neuronal membrane repair and enhances the levels of neurotransmitters like acetylcholine within the visual system.
