Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chokeberry fiber is a dietary supplement derived from the pomace of the black chokeberry (*Aronia melanocarpa*). In research conducted by the Poznan University of Physical Education, it was evaluated for its effects on oxidative stress and gut microbiota markers in athletes, specifically female swimmers. While often utilized as a placebo control in studies investigating standardized chokeberry extracts, the fiber itself is rich in dietary fiber and contains residual polyphenols, such as anthocyanins. It is hypothesized to exert prebiotic effects and provide antioxidant support, potentially mitigating exercise-induced oxidative damage and modulating the composition of the gut microbiome.
