Overview
CholBiome is a food supplement developed by OptiBiotix (via its subsidiary Probiotix Health) for managing cardiovascular health. Its core active ingredient is the patented probiotic strain *Lactobacillus plantarum* LPLDL (LPLDL®), which is a biologic modality. The product works by targeting the microbiome-liver axis; LPLDL enhances the hydrolysis of bile salts in the intestine, which in turn stimulates the liver to uptake more cholesterol from the blood to synthesize new bile salts. This mechanism leads to a reduction in cholesterol levels (particularly LDL cholesterol) and blood pressure, thereby supporting cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. CholBiome is marketed as a food supplement and is available as a single-ingredient product or in combination formulations under the CholBiome brand.
