Cholecalciferol + injectable platelet-rich fibrin is a combination therapy being investigated by Cairo University for the treatment of Stage III periodontitis. Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a secosteroid that binds to the Vitamin D receptor (VDR), exerting anti-inflammatory effects and regulating bone remodeling by influencing osteoblast and osteoclast activity. Injectable platelet-rich fibrin (iPRF) is an autologous blood concentrate that, upon local application, forms a fibrin matrix and releases a high concentration of growth factors, such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). This combination is applied locally into periodontal pockets as an adjunct to scaling and root planing to enhance clinical attachment and reduce inflammation.
