Overview
Cholecalciferol ophthalmic solution is an investigational topical formulation of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) being developed by Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences for the treatment of Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Cholecalciferol acts as an agonist of the Vitamin D receptor (VDR), which is expressed on the ocular surface and within the meibomian glands. Activation of the VDR pathway is thought to modulate inflammatory responses and improve the quality and expressibility of meibum secretions. By enhancing gland function and reducing surface inflammation, the drug aims to stabilize the tear film and alleviate symptoms of evaporative dry eye disease in patients with MGD.
