Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Choline citrate is a small molecule nutritional agent and lipotropic agent that serves as a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh). Developed by Phönix Laboratorium GmbH, it is primarily used to stimulate gastrointestinal motility and is being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment of postoperative intestinal atony following colorectal surgery. Beyond its role in the central nervous system and gut motility, choline citrate is involved in liver function, gallbladder regulation, and fat metabolism. It has also been utilized to manage symptoms of Parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia.
