Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Choline geranate** is a biocompatible ionic-liquid/deep-eutectic system composed of choline and geranic acid, developed by CAGE Bio for localized topical applications and as a dermal drug-delivery enhancer. Its direct antiseptic activity is attributed to geranate and geranic-acid components integrating into microbial membranes, causing membrane thinning, loss of membrane homeostasis, and disruption of biofilm extracellular material. It also interacts with stratum-corneum lipids to increase skin permeation of co-administered substances. A 1:2 choline:geranic-acid gel formulation, CGB-400, was evaluated clinically for rosacea, including a completed Phase 2 trial of 40% topical gel.
