Choltrol

Choltrol is a multi-ingredient dietary fiber supplement developed by Novartis Consumer Health, Inc. for the management of mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia. It is formulated as a mixture of water-soluble fibers, specifically guar gum and pectin, and non-water-soluble fibers including soy fiber, pea fiber, and corn bran. The supplement's primary therapeutic effect is the reduction of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) without significantly altering high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) or triglyceride levels. The water-soluble fiber components are thought to lower cholesterol by binding to bile acids and dietary cholesterol in the digestive tract, facilitating their excretion. The inclusion of insoluble fibers serves to support overall gastrointestinal health by increasing stool bulk.
