Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chondrocell-EX is an allogeneic cell therapy product composed of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs), developed by Cytopeutics Sdn. Bhd. for the treatment of knee articular cartilage defects and osteoarthritis. The therapy leverages the regenerative potential of mesenchymal stem cells, which possess the ability to differentiate into chondrocytes and promote the formation of hyaline-like cartilage (Type II collagen) rather than fibrocartilage. Additionally, the cells exhibit immunomodulatory properties that help manage the inflammatory environment within the synovial joint. Chondrocell-EX is specifically targeted at moderately-severe knee articular cartilage defects (ICRS grade 3) and is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials to assess its efficacy compared to standard surgical procedures such as marrow cellution.
