Chondrocyte-alginate gel suspension is a cell-based therapy composed of living chondrocytes (cartilage cells) suspended within an alginate hydrogel matrix. Alginate is a biodegradable polymer derived from seaweed that forms a three-dimensional scaffold when cross-linked with calcium ions. This system provides a supportive microenvironment for the encapsulated chondrocytes, promoting their proliferation and maintenance of the cartilage phenotype[1][4]. The primary mechanism involves delivering viable autologous or allogeneic chondrocytes to sites requiring cartilage repair or tissue augmentation; the alginate matrix supports cell survival and integration while gradually being replaced by newly formed cartilage tissue[4][5]. Chondrocyte-alginate suspensions have been investigated as injectable therapies for conditions such as vesicoureteral reflux and articular cartilage defects, where they can form stable, non-migratory cartilaginous implants *in vivo*[3][4][5]. The approach aims to overcome limitations of previous injectable materials by using biocompatible scaffolds seeded with functional cells.
