CHOP + granulocyte-colony stimulating factor is a combination regimen used primarily in the treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The CHOP component consists of four drugs: - Cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA) - Doxorubicin (also known as hydroxydaunorubicin; an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II) - Vincristine (a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation, disrupting mitosis) - Prednisone or prednisolone (a corticosteroid with lympholytic effects) Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) is added to this regimen to stimulate the bone marrow to produce more neutrophils, thereby reducing the risk of infection due to chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. G-CSF does not have direct antitumor activity but supports patient recovery and allows for maintenance or intensification of chemotherapy dosing. This combination is most commonly used for aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma but may be considered in other settings where myelosuppression from chemotherapy requires mitigation.
