Overview

Chromene derivative 3 is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of chromene-based compounds, specifically a 2H-chromene scaffold with substitution at the 3-position. It has been developed and studied as an antiproliferative agent with notable in vitro anticancer activity. In recent research, chromene derivative 3 demonstrated potent cytotoxic effects against several cancer cell lines, including breast cancer (MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7) and cervical cancer (HeLa), with IC₅₀ values of approximately 5.36 µM (MDA-MB-231), 7.82 µM (MCF-7), and 9.28 µM (HeLa)[8]. Mechanistically, this compound acts as a multi-targeted inhibitor affecting both Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 (VEGFR2) and BRAF V600E kinase pathways, which are key drivers in tumor angiogenesis and proliferation[8]. Molecular docking studies support its binding affinity for these targets. Chromene derivatives more broadly have also shown antimicrobial, antituberculosis, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, anticholinesterase inhibitory activities[6], but "chromene derivative 3" specifically is characterized by its strong anticancer profile.
